How to build a successful beauty business

Building a beauty business is no easy feat and requires a lot of intentionality, planning, consistency, learning and evolving. It also invloves being on top of the latest beauty trends.

Here are some tips on how to build a successful beauty business;

  1. The first thing you should do after deciding on what product or service you would like to offer is know your target customers. This helps you better understand what they want and how to properly relate and market to them. This brings us to our next tip;
  1. Go where your target customers would be. You know how in Nigerian University hostels, how people that sell clothes, makeup or any item a student would usually need either hawk their goods door to door in the hostels or have their base in front of common areas these students frequent, you have to do the same thing for your business. Figure out where your customers  would be and go there.
  1. Make it easy for people to reach you. You have to give your customers different options on how to reach you and where to reach you. Make sure you have a very active social media presence, online store(get one for free) and also active in communities within your niche.
  1. Visual representation and education is extremely important. If you sell skincare products, it is important you also convey how these products are used and should be used with visual(either pictorial or video) means. Let people see what a product or service is all about. This creates a need, leaves an idea of where to get that need and also what to expect as well from your products or service.
  1. Be consistent. When building a beauty business in this day and age, it is important that people continuously see you. You have to be consistent with marketing no matter how big you may get.
  1. Have good customer service. You are likely to get a repeat customer if your customer service is great. This is one area many businesses fail and complain about. Be very intentional about your customer service.
  1. Keep proper records. One problem business owners have is that they need to be able to keep records safely and in an organized system. This informs decision making and helps segment your customer base in order to know what each group likes or prefers. The Beauty Shop by GlamAfric has tools on their free online store that helps do this and so much more. Click here to set up a free store.

Your customers are your number focal point. It is important that you show your customers that they are very important to you. Holding sales, loyalty programs would further encourage repeat business and show appreciation. You can even go as far as having subscriptions for your customers and coming up with creative ways to keep them interested.
