‘A picture says a thousand words’ As a brand, having adequate visual representation of your beauty products can not be overemphasised, whether you are selling on social media, your own website or beauty marketplaces like GlamAfric’s Beauty Shop. As beauty brand owners, it is important to capture your products in the best possible light.

The perceived value of your products and the trustworthiness of your brand are often judged based on the quality of your visual presentation. A lot of brands lose sales even if they have great products, simply because the quality of their product is not reflected in the imagery.

BUDGET FRIENDLY TIPS FOR GREAT PRODUCT PHOTOGRAPHY

We understand that getting professional pictures taken each time you have a new product launch could be exuberant for a small business, so here are some tips to help you get quality pictures on a budget:

  1. A plain background and a flat surface:  You could achieve this by using a plain piece of material, plain cardboard paper or even a wall. This would serve as your background for your pictures. Also, getting a flat surface to lay/place your products on is key as this would avoid shakes and movements and give you an even playing field.
  1. A good smart phone: Whether you are team android or apple, you can make do with taking quality pictures by using the back camera of your phone. It is important to play with your camera settings to figure out what gives the best product photography qualities and also avoid over editing or using a lot of filters on your pictures.
  1. Props: These are usually small sets or figurines to help add structure, accentuate the main focus and also serve as elements that give body to the main focus. These props can be purchased for as low as N1,000.
  1. Lightning: For budget friendly lighting tips, it is best to take pictures of your products during the day and use natural lighting sources such as windows or even going outside. Make sure you are backing the light while taking the pictures and the object is facing the light for good picture quality.
  1. Tripod: A tripod is very important in taking product pictures as they help steady the phone/camera and help avoid unstable blurry pictures.

As beauty brand owners, you need to avoid poor quality visual representation of your products. Try making do with what you have available and also playing around with angles to get the best possible look.
